The Ohio Housing Conference is the largest statewide housing conference in the nation, playing host in 2015 to more than 1,700 attendees. Registrants from 27 states are able to attend more than 50 industry-related sessions, in addition to daily plenary sessions focused on current state, federal and economic policies affecting the affordable housing industry, plus the event boasts networking receptions and an after-party.
At the same time, the Ohio Housing Finance Agency faced a severe shortage of employees in its Office of Communications and Marketing with three staff members performing the work of seven. In addition to maintaining the department’s daily operations, we were tasked with planning and executing the conference. None of us were event planners, nor did we have a direct supervisor at the time. Regardless of those challenges, the three of us partnered with the Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing to produce the most successful Ohio Housing Conference in event history.
