GCAC | Arts Elevate

For more than 50 years, the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) has supported the artists, organizations, and experiences that shape the cultural life of Central Ohio.

To build awareness of that impact—and inspire greater philanthropic support—we needed to tell a bigger story about what investing in the arts makes possible.

The result was Arts Elevate, a development campaign built around a simple idea: when we elevate the arts, we elevate the entire community.

The challenge

Make the value of the arts tangible

The impact of the arts is everywhere, but that can make it surprisingly difficult to articulate.

This wasn’t simply a fundraising message. We needed to demonstrate why supporting the arts matters to Columbus—and connect GCAC’s work to the larger cultural and economic vitality of the city.

The campaign needed to make that impact feel immediate, human, and worth investing in.

Finding the idea

Following the research phase, we developed five creative concepts exploring different ways to communicate GCAC’s role and impact.

One emerged as the clear favorite:

Arts Elevate

Taking Our City to New Heights

GCAC4

Arts Elevate reframed support for the arts as an investment in the city itself.

Rather than focusing solely on funding, the campaign showed how GCAC helps elevate Columbus through four interconnected strengths: advocacy, expertise, collaboration, and vision.

That framework gave us a way to tell a larger institutional story while keeping the work rooted in the people who actually make Columbus a creative community.

Putting local artists at the center

The campaign paired the Taking Our City to New Heights message with vibrant portraits of Columbus artists, making the people behind the city’s creative culture the visual focus of the work.

Each execution explored a different dimension of GCAC’s impact while remaining part of one cohesive campaign.

One idea. Four ways the arts move a city forward

What began as a development campaign became a way to articulate the broader value of GCAC itself.

Advocacy. Expertise. Collaboration. Vision.

Each represented a different way the organization helps strengthen Columbus’s creative community. Together, they supported one larger message:

When the arts rise, the city rises with them.
